Incident database

Evolution of the database

Since its inception, SAFEX International has accumulated information of more than 1000 incidents thanks to the cooperation of its membership over the years. While early reports were manually recorded on hard copies, all the information is now stored and recorded in digital format.

SAFEX collaborates with the UK Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) Explosives Incidents Database Advisory Service (EIDAS) . This venture provides members with access to details of explosives incidents originating inside and outside the SAFEX family. The SAFEX-EIDAS database now contains more than 20 000 incident records dating back to the early 1900's

Designed for ease of interrogation

It goes without saying that the effectiveness of the database is determined by the quality of the input i.e. the incident information provided. In order to help Members access the maximum amount of information possible with the minimum effort, we must be able to extract the following information about an incident from the reports that are submitted:

  • Date and Time of incident - day, month, year and hour (if known)
  • Location - city; country
  • Event - type of event (fire, explosion, etc.); facility (factory, magazine, mine, etc.); explosives; and activity
  • Causes
  • Consequences - injuries; fatalities

If reports do not contain this information, our database will be the poorer for it
